One week a year. Sometimes less. Sometimes not at all.
In Capbreton, deep in the Landes forest, Virginia creeper winds around the tree trunks and bides its time. For nearly eleven months, it goes unnoticed, lost in the green of the ferns and the quiet sobriety of the pines.
Then, in autumn, something happens. The cold, the light, the humidity: everything has to align. And within a few days, the leaves ignite in a vivid, almost unreal red, only to fall back into obscurity just as quickly.
Every year, you have to keep watch, return, wait for the right moment. Some seasons, the appointment simply doesn't happen: the leaves turn brown too fast, fall in the rain, or never really redden at all.
In 2025, everything came together. That morning, a light mist drifted between the trees, and the light came to rest on the trunks, turning them into living torches above a carpet of ferns still glowing green.
A fragile moment, one that can be neither predicted nor held on to. You can only be there to see it.
