December 2022. The season is turning.
Every year, there are a few weeks when the mountain hesitates. Autumn hasn't quite finished its work, and winter hasn't yet taken over. These transitional landscapes are the ones I love most: nothing in them is settled yet.
At Lac de Gaube that day, the snow had started to settle in, little by little. It whitened the summits, dusted the slopes, clung to the fir branches — but the lake itself had not yet frozen. Its dark water still held the reflection of the mountain, like a last memory of autumn.
At the far end, the Vignemale closed off the valley, massive and still. And between the trees, a golden light filtered through the fir needles, low and soft, with that particular warmth of the short days of December.
Soon, the lake would be locked in ice and the landscape entirely white. This print holds on to the moment just before: when two seasons meet in the same place.
