The fine art paper texture, up close
Sainte-Marie Cathedral, Bayonne
An early morning in Bayonne. The city is still asleep beneath a heavy, almost threatening sky when the light finally breaks through and strikes the twin spires of Sainte-Marie Cathedral. For a few moments, the stone catches fire. The rooftops light up one by one, the trees take on their autumn colours, and the cathedral seems to watch over the city, as it has done for centuries. I love this cathedral. It rises above Bayonne with rare elegance, and it is in these fleeting morning lights that I find it most beautiful. This print is that suspended moment when the city wakes up in gold.
